First Day of Christmas: Partridge in a Pear Tree

On the first day of Christmas
My true love gave to me:
A partridge in a pear tree.

December 25th is here and so this is the “First Day of Christmas.”

To many of us this also the only day of Christmas and the climax of all the preparing and celebrating. In the more traditional sense this is simply the kick-off to 12 days of celebration. So get on your party hats – this celebration is just starting!

Over the next 12 days I will post a little something about the traditions and symbolism of each day. Since most of us know what December 25th entails – I will keep today’s post brief. Today is the “agreed” feast day set to celebrate the birth of Jesus. It seemed a convenient calendar choice since there were some other celebrations of life, light and joy at this time of year. Perhaps something to do with an annual event called the Winter Solstice?

Merry First Day of Christmas to you!

Just revisiting my old posts about Christmas – The First Day of Christmas was either yesterday by most reckonings – or it is today! So I am not late. Really.
Okay so I am! Merry Christmas anyhow!
