Poem: Consensual

You can say
You can think
You can be
Whatever you want
Whenever you wish
I am forbidden
To over-write
That glory which is
And which grows
Shaped inside
Your head
Your heart
Your body

It is only mine
To reveal
And reshape
My own
Personal
Imperfections

And yet still
I long to explore
Crossing those thresholds
That keep us
Safe from harm
Yet alone
Where you and I touch
Willingly
Intermingling
Stigmata
Reshaping
Boundaries

Show me your wounds
I’ll show you mine

This poem was inspired by a conversation about reading a poem, and the the thoughts and ideas that arise in each of us on reading or hearing the poem. I framed the words with one intent, and my audience took in the words with a different frame. It was a wonderful reminder that “sometimes words have two meanings.”
