Poem: 2017-11-08

one…
two…
three…

carefully I count;
every penny…
every nickel…
not enough.

frantically I search;
every cushion…
every pocket…
there’s my budget.

hopefully I shop;
adding up…
counting down…
every item in the cart.

panicking I watch;
every price…
every scan …
dammit short again.

crestfallen I choose;
not this…
not that…
what I can afford.

wearily I trudge;
maybe if…
maybe do…
inventing menus in my mind.

It will suffice;
some how…
some way…
it always does.

It is National Novel Writing month – and well I don’t write Novels but I do try to write novel poetry. One a day for November!

Shall we have a conversation?
