Ramble: 30-Days of Books #30

The end.

I love books. I love words.

I am doing the 30-day book challenge to get some conversations started about books. Please do join in with a comment on your own books – or a link to your own post!

Day 30 and the next prompt is:

Thank you everyone for participating and leaving great answers to the prompts. I found some new books to read, and I think we all learned a little something about each other.

One last prompt;

Name a book you enjoyed with a colour word in the title

The detective story may have been invented by Edgar Allan Poe, but the most recognized English language detective stories must be those of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. The first novel to introduce these two characters is the 1887:

“A Study in Scarlet” – Arthur Conan Doyle

Day 29 and the next prompt is:

Your favourite book or short story.

What is your favourite book of all.

We had spoken about favourite book in a favourite series – and that might be your pick. In that case tell us about your second favourite book!

My all time favourite book would have to be the Collected Stories of Sherlock Holmes. It really doesn’t matter which version. I always add it to whatever reading app I install. And it is the book I will pick up and browse most often.

“How often have I said to you that when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?”
Sherlock Holmes,

Day 28 and the next prompt is:

Your favourite title for a book or short story.

This will be a short post!

My all time favourite book title is
“Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?”
by Philip K. Dick

(The book that inspired Blade Runner).

Day 27 and the next prompt is:

Name a book with the most surprising or effective plot twist

or “The well I didn’t see that coming!” moment.

There have been very few books that have surprised me by the ending or twist. Maybe it is because the book-blurbs and reviews make you expect a twist!

One book that I think did an effective job with a twist is Ender’s Game (by Orson Scott Card): Ender’s in Battle School training to fight the insects for most of the book. He gets promoted and advances to take on more complex simulations. And if you read the book you know the twist! So I won’t spoil it any further than to spoil the fact that there is a twist!

I love books. I love words.

Day 26 and the next prompt is:

Name a book that changed your opinion on something.

This is a tough one as we often read books that reinforce our views and opinions.
So I will make a bit if an odd choice and pick a book that changed how I decide what to value.

The Tao of Pooh” by Benjamin Hoff
It is in some ways a cutesy book that attempts to show the concepts of eastern philosophy through the eyes of Pooh bear.

It mostly works and what connected with me is that life isn’t complicated unless we choose complications.

Simplify and smell the roses. Or at least taste the honey!
Life is short and beautiful. I want enough to be comfortable and enough companionship to feel loved.
What more is there?
