Poem: February 19th

meaning less
I said more
spilling words like seeds
hoping they would sprout
working and tilling
pulling adverbs like weeds
sun-scorched
the paper burned
fluttering ash in the wind

I have no idea how this began.

It is a February challenge to myself – to write novel poetry: One-a-day.

Haiku: Hunger

late winter berries
sparse choices deep between thorns
bird song from within

Poem: February 18th

fog crept round
covered us up
wrapped us down
hiding us
from the men
who watch us
every day

now’s our chance
to escape
find freedom
lose our chains

if we’re caught
then we’re dead
that’s okay
still better
than being
a slave.

Haiku: Slink

half-shadow sunrise
covers tracks of where you’ve been
let me slip inside

Poem: February 17th

clack of ivory
roll of dice
on polished teak
dram of scotch
hold the ice
single malt neat
fate is cruel
never nice
take what is given
hope for the best
once twice
never a third.
